The Tomb (2009)
Horror/Thriller Rated R
Plot
Successful writer and scholar Jonathan Merrick falls under the spell of the irresistible, bewitchingly beautiful Ligeia. She's fighting a fatal illness and she will stop at nothing to defeat death, her one true enemy. She steals other people's souls and on her quest to immortality she tricks Jonathan into supporting her work, breaking him apart from his fiancé Rowena and pulling him into her dark, mysterious world. They settle down in an old manor by the Black Sea where Ligeia's everlasting presence slowly drives Jonathan to madness...
Acting
Features a talented leads in Wes Bentley and the debuting Sofya Skya, as well as a solid supporting cast featuring Eric Roberts, Michael Madsen, Kaitlyn Doubleday, and Mackenzie Rosman. Also features a very brief and fairly meaningless appearance by horror starlet Christa Campbell. The good cast is however a bit wasted as only Bentley's part is written well, and i feel it was one of his weakest performances.
Gore
Minimal, some bleeding from the eyes, and blood on the ground after someone jumps from a building.
Sex/Nudity
Multiple clothed/skinless sex scenes, and some random partiers/strippers during a club scene.
Final Thoughts
Yet another disappointed adaptation of a story originated by Edgar Allan Poe. The biggest problem here is the script, in particular the characters. The characters, even before being taken over by a spirit, make drastic, but random characters changes that seem to be un-provoked and non believable. It very slow and jumps around alot, wasting away what is a decent premise. Skip It.
