Horror/Thriller Rated R/Unrated
A series of deaths have started occurring in New York; Some are being found mutilated while others have an equation wÎ"z = Cov (w,z) = ßwzVz carved onto their skin. As police investigate they discover each victim was forced to choose between sacrificing their own life or a loved ones' life. Before long it becomes clear that this perpetrator has suffered just such a similar fate...so now is coping by seeking a way of solving this philosophical enigma, can Captain Maclean and his officers such as Eddie Argo and his new partner Helen Westcott stop this suspect, because he/she won't not until he/she gets to the end of this equation.
Selma Blair is the best I've ever seen her in her role as torturer, Stellan Skarsgard is good as always, and Melissa George is also good.
There are several torture scenes, but unlike most of it's type, these scenes are handled in a very realistic manner, and are therefore not overly bloody, but still effective. There is also a bloody rape scene.
Also known as "WAZ", "The Killing Gene" is a very interesting entry into the "Torture Porn" sub-genre, as it is almost completely story based, and the torture scenes are used only to advance the story. The story itself is also very interesting and is handled very well by all actors involved. If your looking for something like Saw or Hostel, this may not be exactly that, but it is as good as those movies are and i certainly recommend seeing it.
