Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet (2009)

Horrror     Rated R

Plot

A group of teenagers celebrating the anniversary of the death of a local axe murderer suddenly find themselves face to face with the realities of this haunting urban legend.

Acting

Danielle Harris plays the movies central character, and is not given much to work with, as is Bill Mosely who once again plays a creepy local. Cast also features nate Dushku and Samantha Facchi as the title character.

Gore

Slashed face, axe to eye, stabbed eyes, scissor stabbings, head sliced in half, spine and other innards torn out, hand chopped off, and heads chopped of. Lots of brutal stuff to satisfy gore fans.

Sex/Nudity

Breast during a rape, lots of toplessness while walking around, including a scene holding a severed head to hide her crotch all by Samantha Facci. also random tolpess sex, man and women butt., and clothed sex. Also plenty for sex fans.

Final Thoughts

Although it certainly deliver in both the sex and gore categories, it's incredibly cliche riddled. The script is very lackluster, and fly's through the back story at the beginning at an unacceptable pace, leading to the typical and not too exciting, teenagers in a house storyline. Given the presence of both Danielle Harris and Bill Mosely as well as the great coverage it received in Fangoria, I had high hopes for this, but ultimately it was a disappointment, only delivering in a few category's and failing in many. Definitely worth seeing for gore and sex fans, but otherwise, theres no real loss in skipping it.
